In a goal-packed weekend, three of the five Acorns sides in action overcame the heat to finish victorious.
The Under 11s side were away against Hilgay and despite a positive start from the away side, they found themselves 3-0 down at half-time following a spell of dominance and pressure from the home side. The somewhat distracted Acorns never got going in the second half and conceded another six goals to finish the game with a 9-0 loss, which leaves Hilgay with a 100% record from three games.
The major talking point to come from the Under 13s match, as they hosted Litcham, was the team’s second goal. After grasping the ball, Acorns goalkeeper Tom Mccury drop-kicked the ball up the other end of the pitch, only for his opposite number to push it helplessly into his own net. Jack Hunt scored the other two goals for the Acorns as the home team took a 3-0 lead before half-time. The side managed to hold on for the victory in the second half for a 3-2 victory.
It was a disappointingly early cup exit for the Under 14s Red side as they played Division 2 side Stamford away. Stamford started the better of the two sides as they forced the Reds’ to defend deep and even though the away side finished the first half stronger, they could not prevent themselves entering half-time 4-0 down.
The Reds’ came out after half-time looking a much sharper outfit and threatened Stamford’s goal much more but were only able to net one through Harrison. The away side were punished for not making the most of their opportunities as Stamford scored another three goals to finish 7-1 winners and halt the Reds’ progression in the competition.
In tough conditions, the Under 14s Yellow side travelled to Werrington for a cup tie. It was the Yellows’ who finished 2-0 victors, which comprised of a delightful lob by Dom and a well struck shot by Billie.
The Under 15s side were in action at home against Blackstones who were yet to get a point in the league. Despite taking the lead through a header from Callum having only just come on the pitch, the Acorns found themselves 2-1 down at half-time.
The home side did not drop their heads and started the second half well linking up and creating chances. Rob was in scintillating form as he netted four goals for the Acorns and despite a late comeback, the home side held on for a 5-4 victory.
