The Under 9s side won again to maintain their 100% record. Here is a look at some of the weekend's WTA action.
Benwick Athletic 0 – 5 WTA U9
The in-form Under 9s side put in another impressive display to finish the game with their fourth league win in as many games. The away side looked to be playing with confidence and soon put Benwick under pressure as they forced the home side to concede a penalty.
William made no mistake as he struck the ball past the goalkeeper to open the scoring. William was involved in the second goal for Wisbech as his low cross provided Aiden with the simple task of slotting the ball in the back of the net. Aiden scored his second of the game before half-time to give the Acorns a 3-0 lead heading into the break. Despite added pressure from the home team in the second half, the Acorns went 4-0 up through Shay, who made up for a penalty miss earlier in the game, as he latched on to a precise through-ball from Daniel, to finish past the Benwick goalkeeper. William was once again involved in the fifth and final goal for the Acorns as he went past two players and slid the ball through to Shay for his second of the game. The Under 9s are top of the league currently, with a 100% record and will be looking to extend this form into their next match.
Crowland Juniors 1 – 1 WTA U14 Red
The Under 14s Red side were looking to put last week’s cup disappointment behind them and the Acorns were in a dominant mood but could not find a way past the home side’s goalkeeper in the first-half, despite both Adan and Jim hitting the woodwork. A momentary lapse in concentration in defence cost the Acorns as a Crowland attacker found himself in space in the penalty area for a simple tap-in to give the home side a 1-0 lead at half-time. Following further domination from the away side in the second-half, Adan finally beat Crowland’s goalkeeper with an impressive strike from range to draw the Acorns level. Despite further domination and a high work-rate from Man of the Match, Harrison, the Acorns could not find a winning goal against their tired opponents and had to settle for the draw.
Rippingale & Folkingham 5 – 0 WTA U14 Yellow
Following last weeks triumph in the cup, two penalty decisions contributed to the downfall of the Under 14s Yellow side. Despite some resilience from goalkeeper, Will, who did well to deny the opposition with some good saves, including one from the penalty spot. Rippingale and Folkingham top the league following their unbeaten start to the league so far this season. The Yellow’s will be hoping to put in a better performance at home to Stamford, who are yet to win a game in the league this season, on Sunday.
